The co-relationship between TcBs, soil moisture and yields
Yallammanadoddi is a small hamlet of Galag Panchayat in Devadurga Taluk with 40 families. The work here is supported by HUf.
Mudagal Saab was motivated to build trench-cum-bunds on his 3-acre farm.
Mudugal Saab initially reluctant “I am a small farmer and by building trench-cum-bunds, I thought my available land will reduce, as also my yields by 4 to 5 bags.’
His willingness to take a risk was soon awarded. “Earlier rain water used to run off but now the water is stored in the trenches and soil moisture has increased. This season even with less rains I have healthy Pigeon Pea crop. For 3 acres the harvest is 18 bags. Earlier it was 15 bags. If it had rained well the crop yield would have further increased.”
